When it comes to training dogs, consider the source

There’s no lack of trainers on social media touting their purported ability to control dogs. But the egregious methods of some have caught the attention of animal welfare organizations and veterinary behaviorists.

Last September, the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists, or ACVB, issued a statement countering the aggressive practices used by some of these media darlings. In it, these experts assert that using physical force to correct canine behavior can make dogs more fearful and aggressive, increasing risks to people too. Instead, the ACVB supports positive reinforcement and environmental management to foster desired behaviors.

It’s easy to be swayed by apparent quick fixes, but tried and true methods work in the long run.
