Veterinary Nursing: A Key Role in a Changing Profession

Veterinary Nursing: A Key Role in a Changing Profession

Veterinary technicians, also known as veterinary nurses, fill a variety of supportive roles in the care of animals. In the veterinarian’s office or hospital, nurses work both directly with animal owners and veterinarians as well as behind the scenes to ensure each patient’s needs are met. As the profession of veterinary medicine adjusts to COVID-19 times, all members of the patient care team have been impacted, and have in many cases had to adapt operations to remain as effective as possible while ensuring a safe environment for the client, pet, veterinarian and staff. On this show, Danielle Jonas, a veterinary technician manager at UF and a certified veterinary technician, will discuss how some of today’s challenges are being met in the field of veterinary nursing, and why it remains a rewarding career.
