Tracking dogs as they age

Tracking dogs as they age

As a pooch parent, you and your furry friend may be able to contribute to a worthwhile canine cause for years to come.

The Dog Aging Project, which launched in November 2019, aims to study healthy aging in dogs. The goal is to enroll 10 thousand dogs and follow them for years to discover genetic and environmental factors that impact normal aging. Along the way, veterinarians also hope to learn valuable information about age-related canine diseases.

The study relies, in part, on pet parents reporting observations about their canine kids — in other words, it’s a citizen scientist project. If you’d like to find out more, go to DogAgingProject.org where you can also nominate your pooch as a recruit. If selected, you’ll both be adding valuable information to canine research — here and around the world.
