The spring flood of kittens

The spring flood of kittens

If you’re hoping to adopt a kitten, there’s no better time than the spring. That’s when kittens are born — and if homeless, they might end up in animal rescue shelters.

Unspayed females and unneutered tomcats are ruled by their hormones, which peak in the spring. And cats over 5 months of age will do just about anything to meet up and mate.

Kitten season begins in the spring, continues through the summer and ends in the fall. So, for nearly half a year, shelters face the crushing task of caring for all these little meowers.

Adorable though they are, homeless kittens often come with infections. And sadly, their cute presence in shelters means that older cats are passed by for adoption.

So, once you’ve adopted your furry friend, do your bit by getting your kitten spayed or neutered. You’ll be doing all cats — and cat lovers — a favor.
