What lies beneath the skin surface in humans and in animals is a whole ecosystem of microbes known as the microbiome. Yet in each person, and in each animal, that system is highly variable. Today’s Animal Airwaves-Live features Dr. Aline Hoffman, a veterinary anatomic pathology specialist who has a special interest in dermatopathology and studies the role of the skin microbiome in the health of companion animals. She’ll discuss some of her recent research and findings about how the skin microbiome in each animal affects the likelihood of disease, and how it could even be a reason why your pet has a unique smell.
