Roaming Feline Fighters

Roaming Feline Fighters

Roaming cats tend to fight for territory or other reasons, with yowls and hisses ringing through the night.

Bites inflicted by feline teeth carry bacteria into the wound, which often fills with pus. The resulting abscess causes a high fever and leaves Felix feeling miserable and very ill. Wounds that penetrate the skin, or the immediate soft tissue beneath, are prone to serious infection. Prompt veterinary care to drain an abscess and start antibiotics can quickly return a feverish feline to its frisky self.

But cats that are left to roam again often get into the same sort of trouble. And other dangers lurk outdoors, including car accidents, poisons and wild animals, all of which can take a toll on our feline friends.

So consider keeping your cat indoors for a long, contented life without fighting or biting, and look forward to many years of purrs instead of howls.
