Purringly pearly whites

Purringly pearly whites

Beneath your cat’s cool exterior, she may be suffering from dental disease.

Cats with dental problems might drool, have trouble chewing or paw at their mouth. While cats never have the sweetest of breath, distinctly bad breath can signal dental disease or other health problems. Gingivitis, or gum disease, can show up as dark red areas or swelling along the gum line. Tartar, loose teeth, ulcers or pus are other signs of dental disease.

Regular teeth cleaning at the veterinary clinic will protect your cat’s teeth while allowing your veterinarian to examine her for other problems.

Try brushing your cat’s teeth between visits. Your veterinarian can supply you with a small toothbrush and feline-friendly toothpaste. Don’t use toothpaste meant for humans, as it can be harmful to cats.

The goal, after all, is purringly pearly whites.
