Preparing for Anesthesia: What to Ask Your Vet

Preparing for Anesthesia: What to Ask Your Vet

Many veterinary procedures, such as surgery, dentistry and some types of diagnostic imaging, require that your pet be under anesthesia. The reason for this is to ensure maximum success of the procedure itself, but also appropriate pain management while the procedure is being performed. On this show, Dr. Bonnie Gatson, a veterinary anesthesiology specialist, will discuss how veterinary teams prepare their animal patients for anesthesia ahead of time. She’ll talk about why conducting a thorough physical examination, obtaining blood work and calculating proper anesthetic drug doses all are part of a check-list veterinarians go through, as well as questions you should ask your veterinarian to put your mind at ease before your pet receives a procedure involving anesthesia.
