When you consider pets forging new paths, I’ll bet you don’t envision college campuses being one of them. But sure enough — pets are welcome residents in some institutions of higher learning.

It makes a lot of sense. The transition to college life can be stressful for a student, and who better to provide comfort than their pet? It’s a win-win situation, because pets can have an equally tough time when their college-bound buddies leave home.

So, some colleges are assigning students to pet floors in certain dorms, where they’ll room with their cats, dogs or smaller animals.

Some schools are all in. At least one college has a veterinarian visit campus twice yearly for pet checkups. And — wait for it — another has a graduation ceremony just for pets.

Looks like the sky’s the limit for some beasty bookworms.
