Even if we don’t see them every day, our world would be a much duller place without marine animals. So, how can we help them from afar?
I have one word for you: plastics. That is, mind your plastics, because thousands of tons of plastic waste are clogging every layer of the ocean — and beaches too. And that plastic is here to stay, for up to hundreds of years.
Plastic is the bad gift that keeps on giving — and its indiscriminate. Animals get caught in six-pack rings and plastic fishing nets. They swallow plastic bags, thinking they’re jellyfish. And they ingest all the environmental toxins the plastic has managed to soak up.
You can reduce your plastic use every day by taking steps such as reusing containers or having drinks without a plastic straw. By getting creative, you can come up with lots of ways to peel off the plastic.
