Nurturing canine confidence

Nurturing canine confidence

Socializing your puppy at the right time is key to nurturing her behavior and self-assurance. That golden window of opportunity is between 7 weeks and 4 months of age. With slow, steady exposure to new people, places and experiences, that’s when it’s easiest to mold your pup’s reactions to the world. The idea is to present all kinds of sights, sounds and smells in such a way that her curiosity and trust overcome fear and avoidance.

Building your dog’s confidence and resilience as a puppy might even save her a pinch. Dogs who take new situations in stride are much less apt to harm others. They’re also more likely to accept help when they need it the most.

With a long relationship ahead for you both, proper socialization is the best gift you can give your four-legged friend.
