National Service Dog Eye Day

National Service Dog Eye Day

Each year, for several years now, the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists has sponsored an national event through which board-certified veterinary eye specialists provide free eye screening exams to qualified service animals. The event draws the public’s attention to the importance of regular eye screening examinations for service animals, which serve as their owners’ eyes and ears to keep them safe and secure. Dr. Caryn Plummer, a veterinary ophthalmology specialist, will discuss how UF participates in the event, which in some years has included free heart screenings offered by veterinary cardiology specialists on the same day. Dr. Plummer will also discuss why all pet owners should ask their veterinarians to perform eye-checkups as part of their annual wellness evaluations, and will provide details on UF’s upcoming event for anyone interested in participating.
