Melioidosis in Companion Animals

Melioidosis in Companion Animals

Melioidosis is a disease that affects humans and many species of animals, caused by a soil-borne bacteria that is endemic in northern Australia and Southeast Asia, South America and the Caribbean. In the regions of the world where it is commonly found, melioidosis is a common cause of illness and death. On this show, Dr. Apichai Tuanyok, an associate professor of infectious disease with expertise in the pathogen that causes melioidosis, will describe why this disease is of interest to physicians and veterinarians, and what is being done to translate scientific findings into meaningful treatments to aid veterinarians in regions where pets may also be affected by the disease.
