Marijuana is a menace to dogs

As legalization of marijuana expands, veterinarians are seeing an uptick in canine exposure, too. Many pet parents aren’t aware that pot is toxic to dogs.

The problem is made worse by the explosion of tasty pot-containing products. And the amount of marijuana that’s safe for a person can make a dog really sick.

Clinical signs can develop as soon as 30 minutes after exposure but may not be apparent for several hours. Signs can vary quite a bit, from lethargy and depression to excitability and seizures and anything in between. So, if your pooch is acting odd and could have been exposed to marijuana, get to an emergency veterinary clinic.

Once you arrive, ‘fess up to the veterinarian. You won’t be busted, and any information you can provide will help the veterinary team treat your buddy.
