Pet overpopulation is a serious problem in our country, and animal shelters, which provide temporary care and shelter of homeless or unwanted animals, have always faced challenges. Shelters for community animals often struggle with staffing and budget constraints, the sheer volume of animals brought to them for care, managing disease threats or a combination of those factors. On this show, Dr. Cynda Crawford, the Fredrica Saltzman Endowed Professor in Shelter Medicine at UF, who discovered canine influenza virus and developed the vaccine to protect against it, will share why so many shelters are struggling with their life-saving missions and what the public can do to help them.
