Keeping your pet’s toys mentally stimulating

For our pets’ toys to do their job, they need to keep our beasty buddies entertained. Here are some ways to help keep that love alive.

It seems obvious, but make sure your pet has a variety of toys. Sure, there’ll always be a favorite or two, but try to keep their options open and their mind stimulated.

Also be sure to select toys that aren’t so small they can be swallowed or too big to be carried. Many pets won’t pay much attention to a toy if they can’t take it with them.

Not all pets — or toys — are made the same, so learn what your pet likes. For example, active pets who love to chew usually go for toys you can throw or they can gnaw. That said, most pets — cats and dogs — enjoy puzzle toys or those that dispense treats. Pet parents sometimes overlook these choices, but they’re top of the list when it comes to mental stimulation.
