Guinea pigs with room to move

Guinea pig youngsters are easily dwarfed by their cages. But before you know it, they double in size and don’t have room to take laps. So what’s a piggy parent to do?

Adult guinea pigs need a cage with at least seven square feet of running space. Problem is, there aren’t many commercial options with that sort of real estate. But you’ll get just what you need by building your own C&C cage — that’s short for “cubes and coroplast,” the construction primary materials.

The cubes are 14-inch square grid panels made of wire; they are often used to create office storage. Pop-on connectors join the grids to form walls. Coroplast — a lightweight, waterproof, plastic sheeting — is used to create the litter pan on the bottom.

All supplies can be purchased at home-supply stores, and there are detailed instructions online. Without a doubt, your pigs are gonna love their new cost-effective, lightweight palace.
