Finding a cat’s sweet spot

Finding a cat’s sweet spot

Providing a comforting and stimulating environment for a cat could—quite literally—save its life. That’s because the most common cause of death in cats is euthanasia, usually due to behavioral issues.

Cats have to meet certain needs to feel calm and stay healthy. One is having a safe place to hide from perceived threats. They also need areas where they can eat and drink, scratch and sleep, and use the litter box without crowding.

Cats can only be cats if they can play and hunt. From bouncing feathers on a pole to pulling stuffed animals across the floor, many activities we offer can key into the feline need to chase and pounce. That includes providing tempting—never threatening—smells.

Finally, positive and reliable communication between people and their cats is another key factor—always on a cat’s terms and never forced.
