Feeding homebound fur babies

Feeding homebound fur babies

For those who are homebound and alone, a pet can mean everything. Many seniors and people with debilitating illnesses cherish their pets as they would children, sacrificing their own needs for those of their fur babies. And for folks on fixed incomes, that can mean choosing to feed their pets instead of themselves.

To prevent that from happening, nonprofit and outreach groups have started meals-on-wheels programs, of sorts, for pets in cities across the country. Depending on the program, volunteers deliver pet food, adopt homebound individuals and their pets, or coordinate food drives.

To learn more, check for Ani-Meals or similar programs in your area. You can also contact your local animal shelter. Remember: the idea is for everyone to be fed and pets to stay with their loving families.
