Essential oils don’t mix with pets

Just because most essential oils are safe for us doesn’t mean the same holds true for our pets. In fact, many of these oils are toxic to animals.

The danger isn’t just that pets inhale diffused oils. They can also ingest them when droplets land on their feathers or fur. Either can cause serious problems.

Birds, with their sensitive respiratory tracts, are especially at risk and should never be exposed to essential oils. The same goes for any animal with respiratory issues. For cats, who metabolize substances much differently than we do, exposure to essential oils can be really dangerous. Very small animals can also be overwhelmed by exposure. Even dogs, who are super sensitive to smells, may be irritated by oils.

Essential oils just aren’t worth the risk in homes with pets. After all, our pets are much more essential.
