In our fast-paced world, many of us feel the only way to keep up is to multi-task. But sometimes it’s best to concentrate on the activity at hand — and that includes dog walking.
You may be tempted to check email, scroll through social media or chat with friends when you’re walking your pooch. But it’s safest to resist the urge. You need all senses on alert to notice potential dangers, like your dog scarfing something up from the ground, a bike or car that doesn’t see you, or another dog bearing down. At the very least, you can send your dog mixed signals by not paying attention — like yanking her when she wants to sniff something or dawdling if she wants to play.
Being in the moment with your pooch also provides a great opportunity to instill basic training and — best of all — bond with your buddy.
