Dogs feeling fruity

If your dog goes nuts for fruit, it’s not all that strange.

As omnivores — or creatures that eat all things — most pooches like a little fruit in their diet. Some dogs even like the sweetness of a juicy orange now and then, and that’s fine in moderation. But remove the rind and seeds first and remember that sugars — even in fruits — can be fattening. Sugar’s also an issue for diabetic dogs, so keep sugary fruits off their menu.

And some fruits are out of the question for any dogs. For example, grapes and raisins are downright poisonous to pooches. And did you know that apple seeds contain cyanide?

The healthiest fruits for your pooch are apples without the seeds, bananas and blueberries. Offered sparingly, they can make for some tasty — and welcome — treats.
