Common Eye Problems in Horses

Did you know that horses have the largest eye of any land mammal? Injuries to the horse eye can affect both horse and rider welfare, and horse owners should be familiar with what to look for that might indicate their horse is experiencing a vision issue. Some eye diseases, such as obvious trauma, may be easy for an owner to spot, but others are less obvious on appearance and behavior may be a clue. On this show, Dr. Caryn Plummer, a veterinary ophthalmology specialist, will discuss common eye problems — ulcers and fungal keratitis, to name a few – and why it’s important to seek veterinary care early if you suspect your horse is having eye problems.
