Choosing the Right Pet Food: What You Should Know

Choosing the Right Pet Food: What You Should Know

All dog and cat owners want the best for their pet, but are bombarded with information that one food is better than another by advertisers and web sites trying to push the benefits of one food over another. Although some pets have special medical needs, most pet foods sold in the United States are suitable for a healthy dog or cat. On this show, Dr. Richard Hill, a board-certified veterinary internist and nutritionist, will discuss what to look for in a pet food and why the key to feeding your pet well is choosing a complete and balanced food and avoiding too many expensive treats. He’ll also discuss the relative merits of various pet food categories: canned versus wet, raw versus cooked, “fresh” vs other, “grain-free” versus other and more, along with the importance of keeping your pet fit and trim.
