Lots of myths surround our feline friends, so let’s set the record straight on a few.
Many folks believe cats just purr when they’re happy. Although pleasure usually drives purring, cats can also purr when they’re in distress as a self-soothing mechanism.
What about the myth that cows’ milk is a natural food for cats? Yes, that’s another fiction. Many cats become lactose intolerant once they’re weaned off their mother’s milk, and cows’ milk can upset their stomach. So if you want to give your cat milk, try a lactose-free variety.
One of the saddest myths of all is that black cats cause bad luck. The only unlucky ones are the black cats that are mistreated, abandoned or viewed as unadoptable.
So if you hear a myth, set it straight. You may be helping a cat in the process.
