Career Readiness for Business Management in Veterinary Medicine

Preparing tomorrow’s veterinarians for the skills they need to be successful in practice involves much more than helping students master clinical skills for taking care of animal patients. Understanding best practices for business management is an important part of career readiness in the field of veterinary medicine. On this show, Dr. Martha Mallicote, who coordinates the veterinary business management certificate program for veterinary students at UF, will explain what some of those best practices are and how students are taught these skills through unique hands-on learning opportunities. Having a sound business plan that encompasses everything from staffing to bookkeeping to marketing not only facilitates a successful bottom line, but also helps to streamline efficiencies to ensure the best possible care for animal patients.
