AA Live: Equine Neurological Diseases

Does your horse show signs of incoordination, such as stumbling, or seem to be weaker than normal? It’s possible it might have contracted some type of neurological disease. Should you see your horse display these signs, or any other unusual postures or behaviors, a veterinarian should be contacted right away. On this show, Dr. Rob MacKay, a large animal medicine specialist, will discuss common equine neurological diseases, including equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM), West Nile virus, Wobbler’s Syndrome and creeping indigo toxicity. He’ll address what horse owners need to know about how these diseases are contracted, diagnosed and treated and how to minimize their chances of occurring.
